Cosplay gives people the freedom to express their creativity. Cosplayers create self-made constumes and portray a certain personality that reflects the character they chose to dress up as. Chelsea, 27, took the journey from Utica, New York. She begins her first competitive transformation into Buu by applying pink paint to her body.
Chelsea chose to become the anime character is portrayed in different sizes, so she does not feel restrictions from her body image when cosplaying.
Chelsea was once a runway model, but after attending New York Comic Con in 2005, she transitioned into a different type of performance art.
Cosplayers began to line up for the cosplay contest at 4:30 p.m.
Cosplayers are judged based on three categories: craftsmanship, best in show and best in character.
Chelsea finds out that she is allergic to one of the ingredients in the paint and was forced to take her costume off before the cosplay contest. She was able to get judged early due to her allergic reaction and won third place in the best in character category.
