Bridging Two Worlds

Khadijo Abdulkadir is not a typical college senior. A Somali immigrant from Kenya, she also is the founder of New American Women’s Empowerment, an organization formed in 2016 to empower refugee and immigrant women in the Syracuse area. Now, Khadijo and her former high school teacher, Joyce Suslovic, navigate cultural and logistical complexities as they conduct classes for high school students as well as citizenship classes for adults.
