My Mother, My Daughter
By Jessica M. Joyce
My mother and daughter have a bond that transcends time and space. Shortly after my mother found out she had stage 4 lung cancer, we discovered I was pregnant with my daughter. Since my mother progressed in her illness, she feels that she cannot be as much of a part of Nevaeh’s life as she would like to be. At the same time, Nevaeh is the one thing in my mother’s life that is keeping her spirit alive. I don’t believe that this dichotomy is a coincidence. Nevaeh’s name spelled backwards is Heaven. Watching their relationship has opened my eyes to a bigger picture.
